Pakistan Athletics Hit by New Shake-Up as PSB Steps In

The decision was taken by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), which directed re-polling for the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) after an official complaint was lodged alleging that AFP had violated its constitution while naming senior officials.

In the complaint lodged by Tariq Sidhu of NAATO, it was stated that AFP’s general council had met on December 31, 2024 in violation of the federation’s constitution and governance code of PSB to appoint president, senior vice president and vice PRESIDENT without proper election.

Having considered the matter, PSB Adjudicator ordered AFP to conduct free and fair elections for positions challenged. Until then, they can take care of the day-to-day routine matters but cannot decide any major financial-related, disciplinary and selection-related issues.

The development is in a series of tussles that have cropped up between PSB and AFP, including a recent controversy in Olympian Arshad Nadeem’s coach. With huge International events looming, Pakistani athletics establishment now is under pressure to restore its stability and credibility via a fair election process.
