Karachiites are in for a treat as Sindh government announced the introduction of double-decker and electric buses (EV buses) from next week. The move is in line with the government’s goal to upgrade public transport and bring in new, environment-friendly means of commute for city residents.
According to a statement released by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the new buses will run on upcoming routes of the People’s Bus Service in Karachi. It was also briefed that the managers intend to replicate such schemes in other districts of Sindh so it may facilitate more and more commuters.
EV Taxi Services and Pink Scooties
On the other hand, the second phase of Pink Scooties Scheme and EV taxi service is also to be launched by December. Programmes for training women and female students to drive scooties are being started at each divisional headquarter, thus providing mobility to women.
BRT on Yellow and Red Line Updates
Yellow Line and Red line BRT are moving on really fast. Municipal Minister Memon instructed the officers to speed up work on infrastructure, finish depots and shift utilities without loss of time so that development programme could be strictly followed. The second part of Taj Haider Bridge construction will also be taking commencement very soon, as two-way traffic has already been opened.
