KARACHI: Commuters in Karachi are going to see a major change when double-decker buses and electric buses (EV buses) become operational from next week following the Sindh government’s announcement. A government gesture towards bettering public transport and incorporating contemporary, green modes of commuting in the city.
New Buses And Routes Around The Corner
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that these new buses will ply on future routes of People’s Bus Service (PBS) in Karachi. They also pointed out that the services would be extended to other districts of Sindh and thus the people polulation will have access to it.
EV Taxi and Pink Scooties
Looking to have another robust phase for the Pink Scooties Scheme, by December, the government is also on the lines of launching an EV taxi service. Programs are being established in visit all divisional headquarters to train women and female students in how to safely operate a scooty, giving a boost to the mobility of young females.
BRT status for Yellow and Red Lines
The BRT Yellow Line and Red Line are under construction at rapid pace. Memon told the officials to speed up infra work, complete depots and shift utilities at the earliest so that lines were commissioned on time. The second phase of Taj Haider Bridge will also soon start whereas two-way traffic has already been restored.
Government Targets and Plans
- 500 additional buses to be added during the current financial year.
- New People’s Bus Service routes in other districts to be launched shortly.
- Continuous training programs for women scooty riders across Sindh.
